FC Barcelona will use a tokenized version of the club’s assets to launch an ecosystem that could enable players to earn and trade digital assets. Digital collectibles are increasingly becoming popular among investors, but this is the first time they’ve been used in sports on such a large scale.

The “future of cryptocurrency 2021” is a project that FC Barcelona has released. The project plans to create a virtual reality game where players can earn and spend cryptocurrency in order to purchase items in the game.

FC Barcelona is experimenting with blockchain, non-fungible tokens (NFT), and the Metaverse in order to find new ways to expand and maintain the club. Meanwhile, the well-known Brazilian player has joined the ranks of Mesut Ozil and Antoine Griezmann in accepting alternate currencies.

FC Barcelona (Barca), one of the most successful football teams in the world, has disclosed ambitions to join the Metaverse in addition to NFT collecting plans. During a keynote address at Mobile World Congress, Club President Joan Laporta outlined the club’s aim to create a Barcelona metaverse, detailing the club’s digital goals for the future.

Laporta said that the club has intentions to develop its own cryptocurrency, but he did not elaborate. The club’s President highlighted that blockchain is a crucial instrument for establishing successful services for the club’s 300 million global followers. He explained:

“We are creative in our usage and adaption of technology, and we will continue to be so […] in recent years, blockchain goods and services like as NFTs and metaverse have received a lot of attention […] We should be able to provide digital goods to our members and supporters that are in line with the club’s values and provide a unique emotional experience.”

NFTs and the metaverse provide new possibilities.

FC Barcelona, which has a 120-year history, is one of the most popular football teams in the world, with millions of followers worldwide. Football fans consider visiting the club’s stadium, Camp Nou, a football pilgrimage, with millions flocking to see the 99,500-seater in all its splendour every year. Barca also hopes to develop and incorporate all types of esports and entertainment lines of business with its Metaverse and NFT initiatives. Laporta continued:

“We want to create new growth prospects […] our objective is to win trophies and please our supporters, but we also need to take advantage of chances in the sports sector.” It’s a question of life and death.”

Cryptocurrency is being launched by Roberto Carlos. $RC3

Meanwhile, Roberto Carlos, a Brazilian football legend, has announced the introduction of a new cryptocurrency based on his image. The cryptocurrency will be known as $RC3 and will be traded on the Rally platform. The decision marks another another footballer who has embraced alternative currencies and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), with the sport’s and crypto’s relations expanding at a fast pace since the beginning of last year.

Carlos, on the other hand, is one of the first to develop his own coin. Apart from being an investment vehicle, he said. Merchandise giveaways, private NFT drops, and other rewards and experiences would all be possible with the coin. He explained:

“I’ve been interested in crypto for a while, and I’m excited to take the plunge with $RC3, where I can share access and ownership with my biggest fans […] I’ve been fortunate enough to build incredible relationships with fans all over the world, and $RC3 represents a new frontier to take the connection to the next level.”

Football teams and players do not join the NFT and metaverse sphere just for financial gain. The bond between football fans and their teams is incredible. With the advancement of technology, they may be able to bond even more.
